What to do near our holiday home in Correze

French Markets

Everyone loves the French Markets and here are just a few in the area.
Objat Every Sunday morning a large market and a nice small town all the shops are open too.
Brive la Gaillarde Has a market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 7am to 12.30pm. The centre of Brive is lovely will lots of nice shops and restaurants.
Pompadour has a market on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday morning of the month. With a smaller one in Lubersac on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday.
Limoges Has a market every morning.
St Yriex-la-Perche has a market on 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.
Antiques Fairs are held in Brive on the 1st Sunday of the month and in Limoges on the 2nd Sunday of the month

Farmers markets with a Difference

During July and August several local villages hold special Farmers Markets. The closest is St Pardoux Corbier just 2km away every Wednesday. Here you can buy everything you need for a great Barbecue and then stay and cook it and enjoy the live band all for free.

Villages and Chateaux

In the area you have some of the most beautiful villages in France. Segur-le-Chateau, St Robert, Collonge-la-Rouge. Everyday you can set off in a different direction through wonderful scenery. Don't forget to see the gallery.

Take a drive to Hautefort and visit the Chateau and the gardens. There are a couple of good restaurants and a museum of Medicine.

Jumilhac le Grand also has a magnificent Chateau and gardens.

There are so many more.


There are many museums in the area here are just a couple of suggestions.

Take a beautiful drive via Ayen with a rural museum and on to Terrasson with it's old walled city, the gardens (Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire) and the Chocolat museum.

The museum of Jacques Chirac is in Sarran and holds a collection of the gifts the ex-president received on his state visits.

Lakes and Rivers

Here you are spoilt for choice. Lake with beaches for swimming can be found near Vigeois, Masseret, St Yrieix, Treignac etc.

Fishing is available at numerous locations lakes and rivers. See frenchentree for some ideas.

Take a Canoe or Kayak trip down the river. See Copeyre, portloisirs or vezerepassion for the nearest option.

High Wire Tree Park

At Bussiere-~Galant there is a Tree Park which is great fun for all children of 5 to 65. It's hours of fun. There is also a swimming lake and a velo rail on the same site.

There is also another Tree Park opened near Brive.


To the south is an area rich in limestone caves. See La Grotte des Colonnes Grottes de Cougnac and are just two.

Also see the Troglodytiques at Le Roque St Christophe.
